Where are you located?

Since our instructional services are in addition to my work as presbyterian minister, we coordinate instruction out of our home  in Winifrede WV. Kathi and I handle reading instruction ourselves, but can locate tutors in other parts of the State if needed.  It may take one to two weeks to locate a tutor who will meet our criteria.

For those who need reading instruction using the Academic Associates Reading Program, we prefer to meet at our home in Winifrede, but we can also instruct on site at their homes or negotiate a suitable location within a reasonable distance from our home.  All we need is a dining room table and a controlled environment.

Can I sit in on the instruction?

By all means. Parents are encouraged to attend instruction sessions. That way you will be better able to assist your child with any homework.

What kind of results can I expect from the Academic Associates Reading Program?

Students are gently led through a series of easy steps. As they respond, they begin to read. It’s so easy they often don’t even realize they’re reading at first. In lesson one, nearly every student, even those with severe learning disabilities, will read at least 300 words and syllables. Most students gain 2 to 5 grade levels during the program.

By lesson 13, most fifth graders through adults read and spell college-level words, and comprehend material written on their own grade level or higher.

How long does the Reading Program take?

The program usually takes between 30-60 hours. However, results can usually be seen immediately, as children will usually come away from their first lesson with the ability to read over 300 words and syllables. We encourage parents to enroll their children for two to three sessions per week in order to get the best benefits of the program.

How much are tuition and fees?

All initial evaluations are free with no obligation to enroll. Tuition for the reading instruction program is $30 per session. An additional enrollment fee of $20.00 covers all materials for the duration of the program. For those who may struggle financially, financial assistance may be available. And from time to time, as opportunity permits, we do some pro bono work.  We do not want money to stand in the way of students receiving help.  Please contact us even if money is an issue.

See the final question for the cost of other educational consulting services.

How do you evaluate reading progress?

We pre-test and post-test using a very basic standardized test called the Wide Range Achievement Test (3rd Edition). It gives us a basic idea of your child’s decoding skills (or ability to read phonetically). We also use a Classroom Reading Inventory that gives us an idea of how well your child comprehends what he or she reads.

How much do additional services cost?

Christian School Consultation (assisting a community to start a Christian school or advising an existing school) requires an on-site visit.  Therefore charges are up to $240 per day, $.51 per mile, a per diem for food and lodging, plus the cost of any recommended materials that a school would like to purchase.  Initial consultation is free.  Contact us if money is an issue.  We believe strongly in Christian School education and do not want finances to stand in the way of your school receiving help.

Conflict Coaching and Mediation Services are charged at $30 per hour.    The cost of on-site visits are the same as above.

Usborne Books Consulting Services are FREE.  Kathi has dozens of satisfied customers who have hosted book shows in their homes, at libraries, at schools and preschools, and community events.   Hosts always receive a large percentage of the sales total in free books--a great way to add to your child's or organization's library.   Just call or write to schedule a show and Kathi guide you through the process quickly and easily.
